I just got back from a month long stay in the foothills of North Carolina. It was an amazing time filled with hikes, reading, spiders, red ants and painting.
I posted only a few of the paintings I had done. All were painted "Plein Air" and involved holding a black umbrella over me as the 90 plus heat made my paint feel more like butter then margarine.
I was able see and paint so much, I had completely under estimated how beautiful the Appalachian mountains really are.
I am in debt to Rich Nelson for taking his time to help mentor me while I studied down their.

This is a ally scene that I painted in downtown Howell, probably the only ally in the city. I do love it thought. It is right behind a coffee shop and ice cream parlor(D.Q.). Perfect for a lazy summer day.

11'' x 14''
Oil on Canvas

This is a charcoal portrait of my mothers boyfriends mom. I particularly liked the photo I was able to work from because it was a early 1900's glamor shot. All faded and beautiful.

This was an in class life painting that I had done during last semester which I have yet to post. This was a fun painting to do because the whole time that I was painting it, I couldnt help but laugh because the model to me looked so much like Vigo from Ghostbusters 2 the movie.

Summer Painting

This painting was done as a study while I was in North Carolina.
"Foothills"
Oil on Canvas
14"x11"

This painting was done in my back yard. There is a beautiful tree line back there which I hope to be able to capture in a large scale painting. I am particularly attracted to all the variations of green in the woods with the dancing of different colors on the grey trees.
